The Duncan & Miller Glass Museum

The Duncan & Miller Glass Museum is dedicated to preserving the rich history of Duncan & Miller Glass. Touring the Museum presents the unique opportunity to explore an extensive collection of handmade glass dating from the mid 1860’s to 1955.

Duncan & Miller glass is an interesting study in contrasts and changing styles: delicate hand-blown stemware and sizable pressed punchbowls; simple, elegant candlesticks and impressive candelabras; tiny salt dips and stately vases; Victorian patterns of the 1880’s and the “modern” designs of the 1950’s.

The Museum is filled with striking displays including a special exhibit of Duncan & Miller swans in all colors, shapes, and sizes. Children and adults alike will enjoy a special interactive display titled: “It’s OK to Touch the Glass.” Decorative bowls, console sets, sculptured glass, Victorian novelties, oil lamps, stemware, barware, water sets, and full table services are beautifully presented.

Duncan & Miller colors are considered exceptional – vibrant ruby and cobalt; brilliant ebony; softer tones of pink, green, blue, amber, and canary; striking opalescent hues of jasmine yellow, cranberry pink, and cape cod blue; “contemporary” shades of chartreuse, mocha, avocado, aqua, honey, Biscayne green, and teakwood brown; plus dazzling crystal with lovely cuttings and delicate etchings.

The art of handmade glass making is chronicled in the memorabilia room where a fine collection of glass making tools, original molds, a glass cutting wheel, and  experimental pieces  give visitors the opportunity explore the process and appreciate the artistic talent of the men and women who created  “the loveliest glassware in America.”

The Museum Store has an excellent selection of original catalogue reprints, collectors’ books, and authentic Duncan & Miller glass for sale – a casual place to browse, and perhaps find the perfect gift.
